On the Amalfi Coast, beaches are narrow strips of shingle under the cliff. Maiori is the exception: it has the longest stretch of sand on the whole coast, with a promenade, colour, and room to lie down.
The name comes from the Romans: Reghinna Maior, the stream that reaches the sea here, as opposed to Reghinna Minor, the one at nearby Minori. The two towns have carried those names for two thousand years.

We were there in September 2021: the coast in September, sea still warm and August crowds gone, is the best version of itself.
